I like the kickstand, bigger screen, better cam, and dual-slide (though, if the music buttons are still on the d-pad, wtf is on the dual-slide? GAMING BUTTONS WOULD BE HOT ON THE DUAL-SLIDE
yea seriously, i hate people leaking shit, especially after meeting product managers and asking them what they think about leaks off the record. if i didn't post this then someone else would have, so before people try and pin me as contributing to the problem then bite me, you don't know how the internet works.
@constantine based on my conversations, if it's already on another big site, it's probably safe to post. it's only a matter of hours before it's on Giz and Engadget anyways.
possibly touch pad for scrolling, maybe biometrics fingerprint scanner. I'm thinking game buttons are more likely to be on the other side of the slide.
A few negative comments here. I am so excited about this handset, it looks amazing. Everyone I spoke to so far is talking about the 16GB internal memory. I'm interested in that battery.....
For this to truly be a N96 I have to imagine that is a touch device. The device itself does not look dissimilar to the phone used in the TouchUI video. I think its a bit early for a device though, but this could very well just be an internal prototype used for nothing more than development of the UI. If I were Nokia though I'd think that the N96 moniker doesn't quite do a leap to the TouchUI justice, so who knows...
Plenty of others have already complained about the things I am concerned about. All in all I am quite happy with my recent acquiring of a N95-2. I guess the only thing that this device could bring over that which I have seen is perhaps a higher resolution display. It is about time for a refresh there, so I'd hope that is included.
Nice find Stephan. Looks nice IMO. Needs to be a touchscreen with all of that screen though. Not liking that pixelation in the screen though, so that indicates to me a QVGA. Would have thought that the camera would have gotten an update to a higher mpx, but this is just a leak and might not be indicitive of the final product.
Sorry to hear you were catching some flack for this; in this time of leak-to-blog/news, one would think that folks, especially in the mobile inducstry, are used to this.
I like the N81 :-) Sure, it's not to everyone's liking, but I like the form factor, it has a solid feel and works well. We're shipping loads of them at work. It's 'weaknesses', as it were, are well documented. But I've seen worse than the N81.
updated the post, the original source of the images was a Chinese forum, new images are 650 pixels wide versus 400, and there are a total of 8 now, not 7.
Well, the N95 was announced a bit before CES wasn't it. It would be an interesting note for Nokia to announce the N96 at CES (considering the fun of doing it right before MacWorld). I could see it being announced then, especially since there are leaks now and there's that 1-4 week window from a release to an acknowledgement of these things (sometimes).

AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

Guess the dual-slide is gone given that the music buttons are around the nav-stick. And is that a slide-bar thingy I see?
1 year, 6 months ago by tarek
no lens protection = death, but holy shit you're right that screen is big.

Dual slide is there.

LED flash? Come on...

"Oh ok.. so the feedback wasn't so great for the N81... Let's make it slide both ways! That'll fix the problems!"
AAARGH!

like that stand for video playback!

seems like an interesting combo or N95 8GB (screen and slide) with the N81 (navi and music key).
Flash is disappointing not to see Xenon.
Do we have any insight into what market this is for? NAM anyone?

Awesome! Me wants to see some specs.
1 year, 6 months ago by NET9
Ah missed the pics on Flickr, went via mobile-review. Is that a speaker on the dual slide?
1 year, 6 months ago by tarek
@Pseudo Finn - I was really hoping my next phone wouldn't be the N82.
I was really hoping my next phone would be the natural successor to the N95.
This is not that phone. Looks like an N82 for me then.
1 year, 6 months ago by whatleydude
Looks like the speakers are on the corners of the right side of the device- top and bottom.
1 year, 6 months ago by PseudoFinn
@whatley I'm just really hoping that this isn't the N96...
1 year, 6 months ago by PseudoFinn
@whatleydude: looks like it has that 'c' button you were raving about :-D
1 year, 6 months ago by aksyn
N81i more like.
1 year, 6 months ago by whatleydude
the N81 was a mistake and this N96 looks like it keeps on carrying that bag of shame.
1 year, 6 months ago by constantine
@aksyn - YES!
I didn't like it on the N81 and I thought it was just a hiccup... sigh
1 year, 6 months ago by whatleydude
@Stefan - well said that man.
cannot believe I just said that
;)

one word: clusterfuck
1 year, 6 months ago by afr
understatement of the century @afr. with the dual slide how many buttons are we up to now?
1 year, 6 months ago by constantine
the way S60 is developed would make such an update extremely cost prohibitive and i don't think i can say more than that regarding said issue.
1 year, 6 months ago by constantine

whoever who leaked the images - not cool. not cool at all.

which big site is it on? the russians? the czechs? the hungarians? they always get the leaks first.
1 year, 6 months ago by constantine
I thought you said you found it on Mobile-Review
1 year, 6 months ago by rcadden
yea i did, i thought you meant you saw it somewhere either than mobile review. my mistake.
1 year, 6 months ago by constantine
Oh it was N9x.. I thought it was something more amuzing... ;)
1 year, 6 months ago by jakeS2
@jakes2 what were you thinking then?
1 year, 6 months ago by cybette
Once information is out, you can't gather it back up. Can't put the genie back into the bottle! It wants to be free!
1 year, 6 months ago by Bishop
That being said, the phone looks cool. And my current one is breaking down, so I need a new one... :)
1 year, 6 months ago by Bishop
@rcadden: Game Button on the dual-slide FTW
Can't figure out what else it might be other than an extra speaker or gaming buttons. Surely it can't just be to put the device into landscape can it?
1 year, 6 months ago by tarek
possibly touch pad for scrolling, maybe biometrics fingerprint scanner. I'm thinking game buttons are more likely to be on the other side of the slide.

it has begun, getting an ass ton of traffic from inside Nokia, crossing my fingers for no take down notice.
1 year, 6 months ago by constantine
nice - rock on!
1 year, 6 months ago by atmasphere
i wonder if Nokia order their employee internet bandwidth by the "ass ton"...
1 year, 6 months ago by aksyn
believe by the metric ass ton
1 year, 6 months ago by atmasphere
And a lens slider!
1 year, 6 months ago by PseudoFinn
i'm def. waiting for a first TOUCH or a first OMAP3 device..
1 year, 6 months ago by afr
@Stefan - let us know if you get the order...
1 year, 6 months ago by whatleydude
highly doubtful, i've made friends who work in IPR.
1 year, 6 months ago by constantine
besides, it's all over engadget and crunchgear now. my work here is finished.
1 year, 6 months ago by constantine
I dont see why its an N9x. There better be some amazing hardware inside to justify the N9x designation.
1 year, 6 months ago by iamnotdrtran
N9X series = introduction of new hardware features. It will have something the N95 doesn't and we know it ain't the camera.
1 year, 6 months ago by constantine
That's interesting...
1 year, 6 months ago by PseudoFinn
I don't think that's the final name.
1 year, 6 months ago by rcadden
N81i
1 year, 6 months ago by whatleydude
I hope so.
1 year, 6 months ago by PseudoFinn
the N96x series is too valuable for this "mistake"

1 year, 6 months ago by Jay3gsm
Right- VGA screen would be nice.
1 year, 6 months ago by PseudoFinn
I've been talking with my fellow handset geek at work, we both think the N96 looks 'the nuts'. :-)
1 year, 6 months ago by Jay3gsm
@Jay3gsm - have a play with an N81. Then come back.

I like the N81 form factor. If it had a decent camera, it'd be the shiznit for me! Want to see the specs on this N96.
1 year, 6 months ago by phoneboy
@phoneboy - :) - you know, your arguments made me re-think my review..

I can't wait to get my hands on this N96.

I would also be happier with demand paging, which would come with FP2 (I think).
1 year, 6 months ago by phoneboy
I'm so not feeling it.
1 year, 6 months ago by munkimatt
@phoneboy
Demand paging is not a feature of FP2, since it is in the new N95 firmware and in the N95 8GB firmware ...
1 year, 6 months ago by mobilereviews
With S60 Touch I have no reason to get this...

Damn...I really hope this doesn't come out too soon ;-). I just bought an N95-3 (US 3G) to replace/complement my N95-1.

@mobilereviews: on-demand paging is an FP2 feature, it was just backported to a few FP1 devices that would benefit most from it.
1 year, 6 months ago by cybette
Is an N96 one of those Nintendo phones?
