How do I get a bottle of Koskenkorva onto the plane? I have an 8 AM flight which means Alko in HEL will be closed. This is for parents.

I'd rather not have checked luggage either, I mean I'm only going to be gone for 3 days, a book bag will be plenty.

ohh, just thought. Is it a direct flight?

If not, you might end up having to check some hold luggage anyway :(

it isn't a direct flight, shit, think the UK (Heathrow) is going to confiscate my booze? i had a bad experience going from Spain to Florida to Texas where they made my buy a bag just to get two bottles of wine onto the plane. Those same two bottles which no one had a problem with me holding them on my lap across the bloody Atlantic.

LHR is bad. I wouldn't recommend to buy from HEL if transfer is at LHR.

I'll try, what's the worst that could happen, I pay for some mid 20's security guy to have fun one night with authentic Finnish alcohol?

    When do you fly?

Our speech mobster bags make great bottle bags... (didn't hear that from me)

if you stay in the same teminal at LHR then you will be fine... but the odds are you will need to change.

Is it OK to have alcohol in my baggage?

Yes, you can check alcohol into the hold baggage and any duty free you buy in the departure lounge can be taken with you on board.

But remember that the liquids restrictions apply at all EU airports and a growing number of other airports across the world, so you might need to pack duty free in the hold baggage for your return journey.

I have to transfer – what will happen to the liquids I’ve bought on the way out after going through all the security?

Restrictions apply at transfer points as well. So if you buy a product in Duty Free and it is provided in a sealed bag you MUST NOT open it until you reach your final destination. You should also retain your proof of purchase throughout your journey as you will be required to show it at all transfer points. Always check at your Duty Free shop, or with your carrier.

I'm going to give it a try.

yea tell me about it, i think i may get two bottles, one for my parents and one for me. flying home for christmas my parents picked me up and were like "so tell us, how is everything!" and i just started sleeping in the car then proceeded to pass out once we got home for another 6 hours. yuck.

I know that Amsterdam at least seals ALL liquid purchases.

Not sure about HEL, as i am normally only flying to UK (so no transfer).

The real challenge will be the flight to the US. If the booze is in the checked baggage you'll be OK. I think it's also OK now to carry on booze (& other liquids) if they're in a sealed duty free bag. Otherwise the 100ml restrictions apply.
