    Erm, I don't recall seeing the mention of Apple, unless you continued the story to apply to present-day in your head?

    It's in there, a brief mention on "will apple prove to be the new "come from nowhere" company.

    This is interesting combined with Stefan's earlier post re: mobile visits to engadget. The current "island of California" is using one's phone to access the Internet. Right now, people think of their phone as a, well, phone and maybe text messages as well. If they want to access "the web", they think they need to buy an iPhone.

    True, I recall from marketing classes in college that industry leaders are seldom first movers. They tend to be more second-steppers, keeping a close eye on what others do, and come in a bit later to do it better.

    Not that such a practice is always smart, specifically if you step to slowly.
