that is not what i meant. anything this degrees are good for is technical skills working in tv/radio which are difficult to obtain otherwise. not saying they're not useful, but really anything a media degree can teach you you can tech yourself, so if invest 3 years of studying (or however long) worth putting into some proper knowledge
ahhh learning. i'm just applying so i have something to do in Finland if i become unemployed. that and it's hard to find girls in their early 20's except at clubs and i don't want to do the club thing every weekend. i could also use some friends who were born in the same decade as me as well. this is more for personal development than education. train tickets are half off too and some pubs have cheaper drinks as well. the education is just a bonus.
hmmm, if admissions people google me they will see this thread. should i delete it? i remember reading somewhere that in Finland a future employee can't google you, but a school ... that's a different story.
@constantine: that's basically the same reason about one third of every 19-y-o Finn applies for those schools. Unemployment benefits from the state are dependant on if you've applied to AMK's or not.
so, I'm fairly sure the admissions people would just shrug, look at your other Jaikus, look at your website/blog/cv and scream in delight, if they bother checking Google at all. Which I doubt.
@constantine: Regarding deleting the thread - it all depends on the admission criteria. If you apply to a university, it usually goes by your credentials/grades only (some master's degree programs have interviews etc. but that's not very common). I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to universities of applied science ( ammattikorkeakoulu in Finnish), but you should look into the criteria; that should be helpful anyway when it comes to your application process. I'm not judging anybody's reasons to apply to a school - suffice to say there is a sizable bunch of students who do not clock in a lot of credits per year.
@constantine: have you checked anywhere if you could use your previous studies as a starting point in that sense that you wouldn't have start from scratch?
As a recent graguate from TAMK Media, I could say that whoever said that it's only for TV and Radio, that's completely wrong. Times have changed since the 90's and nowadays online media, internet services and games are "hot topics" in Media studies @ TAMK.
Of course, since these things are "new", the traditional film studies is the field that has the most reputation... Which then again only means that there are lots of people who want to get there and it's difficult to get a job. Which is completely different with studies in interactive media.

Finnish Media degrees focus more on the online and interactive than the television. i don't think i know any Finnish people my age who watch TV ...

Self development is always good and getting a degree will help you a lot as there's such a strong focus on education and titles in this country.

note to self: do the pretask, it's a required added step to get through the screening process.
